Abstract

Background: The principal aim of the present study is to evaluate the anti-diabetic activity of the ethanolic leaf extract of Aegle marmalose.. The medicinal plant has been used from ancient times in the curing of diabetes along with human diseases.

Methods: Diabetes was induced by intraperitonially injection of alloxan monohydrate at the dose of 150 mg/kg body weight, after making of the diabetic model the biochemical analysis was done. The phenolic compound was analysed by HPTLC.

Results: Oral administration of the EEAM for 28 days used for the study of protocol, the blood glucose, serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), Billirubin, alpha amylase, insulin, and lipase levels were assessed. The results obtained from the study administration of a daily dose of EEAS significantly reduced the blood glucose, SGPT, SGOT, Billirubin, alpha-amylase, and lipase in a dose-dependent manner, but increased the activities of insulin level as compared to diabetic rats. The results obtained were comparable to those of Metformin.

Conclusion: The results obtained suggest that EEAM possesses have a potent role in diabetes curing and associated complication
