Abstract

Thermal resistant property was imparted to the cotton fabric using banana pseudo stem aqueous
extract. The aqueous extract from banana pseudo stem with different pH levels (6 to 8) were applied
on bleached cotton fabric using pad dry cure method. The time and temperature of the finish was kept
constant. The influence of pH on various properties of cotton fabric such as air permeability, wick
ability and thermal resistivity were investigated. The result shows that the fabric treated with pH 6.5
has given high thermal resistivity than other treated fabrics. It is also found that the air permeability
and wick ability of the fabrics are not changed due to change in pH. Further the chemical composition
of treated cotton fabric is analyzed by FTIR and SEM.
